The accommodation options in Cappadocia are numerous, and here I’m going to list the main categories, so you can get the general idea and choose something that suits you the best.

First of all, location. There are several town in Cappadocia, some of them are bigger and have better infrastructure than others.

Goreme is the most popular location in all of Cappadocia as it lies in the intersection of the main touristic routes and some attractions, like, Goreme Open Air Museum, Swords Valley and Sunset Point, are accesible on foot. There are a lot cafes, restaurants and souvenir shops in Goreme, it’s basically a big tourist village. It has one supermarket, one pharmacy but no hospitals or greengrocers. The streetmarket day is Wednesday, that’s when you go to the center and find local people selling local produce – anything from vegetables and spices to broomsticks and knives.

Uchisar is a bit smaller and less touristic than Goreme. Still, it has some nice cafes and offers amazing views of the Uchisar rock fortress and the surrounding valleys. It is also the best starting point for the Pigeon Valley exploration, and Love Valley is not too far away either. There are a lot of small grocery stores, a clinic and a pharmacy. All in all, it’s definitely a more quiet and authentic experience.

Cavusin is a small village about 5 km north of Goreme. It has few hotels and restaurants, a clinic but no pharmacy. It is the best access point for the Rose Valley, as well as the Red Valley and, if you don’t mind some more hiking, Monks Valley (Pasabag). It also has a massive rock looming above one part of the village – that’s where the ancestors of the locals used to live in the caves. But the most important thing is that the launch site most commonly used by the balloon companies is located very close to Cavusin. So, if you want to see dozens of hot air balloons rising into the air as close as possible, maybe Cavusin is a good option for you.

Urgup is a town about 15 km east of Goreme. It has around 30.000 population and a very decent infrastucture: lots of restautants, supermarkets, banks, ATMs, pharmacies, as well as a bus station and 24/7 emergency room attached to a brand new hospital. There are a lot of both regular and cave hotels which are often cheaper than the ones in Goreme. None of the main attractions are accesible on foot from Urgup but it doesn’t really matter if you book a full-day tour and are going to be picked up and dropped off at your hotel anyway.

Mustafapasa is a small village about 20 km from Goreme. It’s a quaint little place, very pleasant and rich in history of the Population Exchange. It has some great some great example of Anatolian Ellinism architecture and the hotels there have incredible atmosphere. The attractions include St. Constantine and Helen church, St. Nicholas monastery, old Medrese building and Ethnographic Museum. It’s a good starting point for the Gomeda valley hike. The infrastructure is decent enough – quite a few shops and cafes, ATMs, a clinic and a pharmacy.
